I see there are Octacore CPU on the market

Recommended Posts

Does Mygica make Octacore boxes yet?

Thanks

Not yet

The S912 Chipset from AMlogic is supposed to be Octacore, but there is no release date yet for this Chipset.

They are coming out with the S905 Chipset first.

Thanks Justin, I don't know too much about this stuff. But doesn't Rockchip make already the RK3368 which my understanding is an octacore. Is this not usable in mygica boxes?

Thanks

What is the need of an octa- core CPU for a Streaming Media Player? I see the use for mobile devices.

That octa-core term is more than a little misleading, as it doesn't mean the doubling of quad-core multi-core performance that it suggests. Rather, it represents two independently operating quad-core set-ups squeezed together on one chip for the purpose of greater energy efficiency.

Is such an octa-core setup superior to a quad-core one? No, not necessarily. Apple manages to get decent energy efficiency and performance out of a dual-core setup, after all.

The market price will be cheaper

AMlogic has there S912 Octa Core coming out in the Fall.

I was told it will be around same price as what is used on the ATV 1800E.
