Are you referring to PAL/NTSC setting? by default the boxes are setup for Auto Detect when using HDMI. If your using RCA cable then you need to manually change the settings.

after your initial welcome screen, go to the settings page, click on Display and then click on Display again. This is the page where you change the resolutions manually or automatically.
