h265 capabilities

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have experience with the h265 playing capabilities of the atv 585? Is the 585 able to play 1080p h265 encoding without stutter or is the chip not really up to the task.

I have the 582 which has no hardware support for h265 and thus makes a terrible mess of even most 720p (h265) files. I’m thinking of swapping the 582 for the 585, so I want to know about the experience of other users of the 585 playing capabilities concerning h265.

I have used a 1080P HEVC Movie through KODI on the 585 without any issues.

Anyone else have feedback?

I don’t have a Ph.D. in video encoding, so I don’t make a life in the subtleties and nuances of all the different flavours and implementations of the h265 codec.

So if a device states that it is able to play h265 then I assume that x265 is also included and things is not going to turn into a research project. I already bought the 582 which was unable to play both x265 (720P) and 1080P (KODI 16.1). Garbled mess. The shop I bought it from was willing to do a swap for the 585 which states native support for h265. The very same x265 files fared even worse on the 585 as the 582.

Mygica should be ashamed that they are flogging this underperforming rubbish. Buyers beware, x265 file are a hit and miss affair on the 582 and 585.

What format of H.265 are you trying within KODI on the 585?

I have tested several 1080P H.265 MKV Files on KODI without any issues, all within 1.5-3GB in size.
