Stupid Surround Problem

My Yamaha HTR 6260 will accept Toslink or RCA Stereo in but it will not reproduce sound from an HDMI source. How ridiculous is that?

It will forward the audio to the TV over HDMI but will not decode sound from an HDMI source and reproduce it in surround sound.

Please tell me the best way to connect my 586 to my surround sound stereo and please do not tell me to run sound back from my TV because it is on the other side of the room from my Surround sound with only an HDMI cable ran to it, buried in the wall.

The Sound/SOUND DEVICES MANAGER/Sound Output Devices/usbaudio output looks promising, what do I need to connect a USB port to an RCA or Toslink input on my surround sound system?
