Are you able to turn it back on right away?

If so, then this may be the daydream setting. Look for the daydream setting in the android settings and turn it off.

This standby thing is probably not happening during a video playing is it?

In setting/Display/ no day dreams only Font.

please give some more details. When you say it goes into standby mode, what happens?

Is it coming back on,  on its own?
