MyGica ATV585 - Showmax not working

Recommended Posts

Hoping someone here will have a solution we haven't thought of yet.

We got the MyGica ATV585 just after the new year, and still haven't been able to get Showmax to work.
We have tried updating, factory reset, have followed the instructions given here: http://www.syntech.co.za/newsbytes/t...howmax-update/
Installed the firmware update both manually and automatically.
No joy. Showmax app is still saying the device is rooted.

Our next plan was to try and format completely, download a different version of Android and install that, or find an older version of the Showmax app somewhere and set it so that it doesn't update.

Think this might work?

Anyone have any ideas?

Really getting desperate, as it's a waste of subscription fees at the moment.

Installing this patch file onto your box will unroot your 585 and you can then start using Showmax

Hi Justin,

Using the patch file did not work. Showmax still says the device is rooted.
The only way we can get Showmax to actually work, is by installing an older version of Android (before the patch), and using an older version of Showmax, then setting the device so that it doesn't automatically update anything at all.

A rather silly solution, as now we can't really enjoy the full potential of the MyGica....

Very sad for the reputation of MyGica, that they are unable or unwilling to provide updates that actually fix these issues...
Unfortunately I won't be recommending the MyGica...

If this is the case, then I will need to get a new patch file.
I cannot get this till after Feb 8th, as our engineers are on Chinese New Years till then.

Just be patient, sorry about this.  But it will get fixed.

I hope you can get a new patch file Justin.

I will be keeping an eye out for it. We had to load Android Jelly Bean, and a much older version of Showmax, and now it runs, as long as we don't update anything. Hope that helps towards finding a fix.

We really would like to be able to use our MyGica the way it should be, so I'm holding thumbs you can find a fix soon.

Ok I will update as soon as I hear back

I am kind of lost here though, how would you load Jelly Bean onto your 585??
We have never had Android 4.2 available for the 585, only 4.4

Or did you mean you had to load an older version of Showmax app?

Seriously Justin, my hubby downloaded the Android JellyBean, installed on our ATV585, then downloaded an older version of the Showmax app, and that's how it runs now.  Is the only way we could get Showmax to work, as your patch files don't...

Thank you Justin, that is what I have currently on my 585.  Any news on the patch from engineers to unroot device?

Happy to report that the patch seems to have done the trick for the DSTV Now app. Live TV and Catch Up working now. For the moment at least.

Can't comment on Showmax however, don't have the app/account.

Good to hear

Many other users have reported that Showmax is also working after this update.

Good day,

Do you have a patch for the Mygica ATV495Pro to enable the SHOWMAX and DSTV NOW app to work? (i.e. unroot the device).

The 495 PRO should come unrooted out of the box.

Have you tried the latest firmware update V120 we sent out today via our server??

Hi Justin

Would it have an effect if I installed this patch twice? Had problems streaming via DSTv Now app and installed unrooting patch again.  Thought it was rooting issue...

I don't think installing it twice will make any difference.

But it worked for you afterwards?

Issue was with DSTV's servers in the end.  But you were right, didn't make any difference installing again.
