I just bought a Buzztv brand box. It has exactly the same hardware as a 585. Am I safe to update either the firmware or the android version? It is a Buzztv 1000 model.

If you bought the box to use it for what Buzztv is sold for which is IPTV.

Then I would highly suggest that you only keep using the software that it came with.
