Very new to this, don't get it at all...

Recommended Posts

Basically, I am not too computer savvy at all and I bought the ATV1800e and was hoping to watch some live tv and VOD. I've watched some youtube videos (namely by Husham) to get a few things set up like Icefilms and whatnot. Here are some problems i've encountered that I need some help with. But in the most layman-est terms please. I don't understand any of the jargon, I don't know where to find what version of anything i'm running at all lol. I am struggling to find any updated videos on the subject either so even a point in the right direction will help :)

-My startup screen asks me to pick between two launchers. The Mygica 4k or Google Nexus. I have been using the Nexus launcher for now as I can't get past alternating black and green screens when I try to choose the Mygica launcher.

-I have XBMC. I don't know what version or what Kodi is or any of that.

-I used Husham's instructions on how to add IPTV and applied one of his URLs. I can see all of the channels in the list but not a single one will play. The radio channels work though. I can't get EPG to work.

-I tried getting the ESPN add-on to work and TSN but keep getting a ScriptFailed Error.

-Almost everything I do gets a ScriptFailed error. Except Icefilms. I was able to stream some shows on that.

I need a ton of help. There are so many discussions & videos about setting up, I just don't understand the terminology. Youtube videos all seem to be done by people running XBMC on their computers. So i'm lost. I'm from Canada and don't know if my location affects how anything works either. Please bear with me :)

Nina

Hi Nina,

It sounds like you are needing quite a bit of assistance. I think we would have more success if we could speak over the phone to figure out these issues. Please give us a call at 1855-MYGICA-8 and choose our support section. We would be happy to assist you in getting these things sorted out.

Here's the deal. The MyGica (or any media streaming box) is by definition a bare bones media interface device that is made primarily to make your media grabbing more user friendly and self contained to one place. That's why you can go to Shoppers and get your milk, eggs, passport photo along with your Viagra, one stop shopping...

Anyway, most people use the MyGica for xbmc. The first thing to learn is "install from zip file". A thing that a lot use is a "virtual zip". This means that the zip is actually an http link that is automatically updated because you're actually going out to the web to get the latest. You can see if the link is good by typing up in the taskbar of your computer to make sure it works. An example would be "http://total.tv". This isn't a real link because it directs to a third-party that isn't officially xbmc approved. I'll send you the link in your PM.

You add it in

System/File Manager/Add Source

Put the http link in, call it something, and press OK.

End of part 1...

You would then install the program by going to... "System/Settings/Addons/Install from Zip". Bottom right of the screen you'll see "blah blah enabled". Then go to "Get Addons " and open up the "Repo". That's short for repository, think of it as a filing cabinet that has what you're looking for in it. You can have video Addons, program Addons, etc. Inside it, I'm going to pm you a link that is good for adding any Addons you would care to ever install.

Later after you have it set up I'll talk about an Addon that will save your setup so that you can reinstall your install if you ever have to redo from scratch

End part 2

I just ordered my ATV1800. I am a bit more (wee wee bit) familiar, but this thread is great. I am moving on from an ATV2 so I will have a bunch of questions because I want to learn how to really use this media PC.

Can you PM me the links and such that you sent Nina? Thanks!

I am used to loading files from the repository in XBMC so the idea of using the USB is unfamiliar. I also need to get up to speed on the remote and the wireless keyboard I am getting. Right now I use a Logitech remote. Will I be able to control the Mygica with the same remote I use now?

Thanks, Rick

Hopefully Ninja can help you with what your looking for.

I just had all of our IR Remotes added and updated on the Harmony Database, so you should have no issues using it with the 1800
