495 PRO Android 7.1 upgrade 7.1 BETA (final version)

1 Screenshot

About This File

ATV 495 PRO upgrade to Android version 7.1

This is a beta version as we had to build this ourselves without the normal support through regular channels. This will not move passed BETA, so you may encounter minor issues with certain programs, but we currently have no known issues at the moment.

Difficulty level - 3/5

This will not work on the 495. It is meant for the 495 PRO. This is indicated on the sticker on the bottom of your 495 Pro unit. If it doesn't say "PRO" then its a different device.

Notable features:

-Updates from Android 5.1 to 7.1 for better support.
- New Home Screen
- Added Dual Boot Option to Libreelec
- Added Super User Support

****DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE TO 7.1 THROUGH THE OPERATING SYSTEM. IT WILL POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE***

This update must be done using the below method only.

NOTE: Processing this Firmware upgrade will wipe all your Data

How to process the steps:

1. Download the zip file
2. Format your MicroSD Card to FAT32
3. Unzip the files into a folder on your computer before moving to step 4.
4. Drag and drop files from Unzip folder to root of your MicroSD card.  (unzip files to the main part of the card, not in a folder)
5. Insert sd card with files into the 495 PRO SD card slot
6. Connect HDMI, turn the TV on
7. Hold the Power button.
8. Hookup power while holding down power button.
9. Hold for 15 seconds

10. The front side lights should blink red to green repeatedly if the upgrade process has started properly.

you will see the android guy moving, give it 5 -10 minutes and it should bring you to the 7.1 setup screen.

To revive or unbrick your ATV495 Pro here is the best file to process.

** remember ** We will not follow any of these other guys that tell you to open your box or short any pins to develop more problems for your boxes.

process these steps and update us here how it turns out.

Hopefully this helps people that had a messed up upgrade.   They were very kind to upgrade the software for us instead of the usual "planned obsolescence" of most android devices.

I have recommended MyGica to several other friends and will continue to do so.   Cheers guys 👍

It worked! My bricked 495PRO is back to Lollipop. Kudos to MyGica support. Also, thanks for including USB Burning Tool (UBT) in the download package. There's lots of versions floating around so it's great that you provided a functional copy (v2.0.6.2) along with the img file. Your instructions show a different version but I can confirm that v2.0.6.2 worked fine.

As noted, no NAND pin shorting was required (whew!) so there's no need to open the box, however, I had to use the USB port other than the one indicated in the instructions. That is, I had to plug my cable into the "front" USB port closest to the SD card slot. Also, in my case, I didn't have to hold down the power button. The 495PRO was immediately recognized by UBT when the USB was plugged in. The other USB port (towards the back) did not work with UBT regardless if the power button was held (or not) when the power was applied. Perhaps there have been minor hardware tweaks during the 495PRO's life cycle?

Anyway, thanks again MyGica! I appreciate the responsive customer support.

And now upgraded to 7.1 😀

Props to the Support guys involved in working to resolve this. Started off bumpy and you folks came through.

QV, give it a bash. I hope it works (follow bineredondat's instructions in the comments).

So a couple of days using the unit with 7.1 (GUI takes a little getting used to) and the only annoyance is that when the unit is powered down and turned on again, you have to remove and reinsert the HDMI cable for the image to appear on the monitor/TV (have tested on 2 TV's and a 23" monitor).

I attempted the fix that worked for Rick White (Justin advised turning off Automatic Display Resolution in Display settings), unfortunately it still does it.

Apart from that, happy.

The display issue you describe is something we cannot fix
We found this varies by the TV you use the box on, as we have 8 different brands of TVs in our office and it works fine on 6 of them.

This is the main reason this will stay in Beta, we had another development team to make 7.1, without having the full Uboot files of Android for these boxes.

You can leave the box turned on 24/7, it will use a very small amount of electricity when doing this
Me personally, I haven't turned off my box or rebooted it in over 6 months.

Pity about that, but certainly not enough to warrant my reverting to 5.1 again.

In terms of leaving it powered on, in good 'ol SA we are currently experiencing regular power outages (loadshedding), so not really workable, but it is not an issue to reseat the HDMI cable to get it displaying again.

For me I had to make 2 adjustments in Display settings for the HDMI to work properly.

1) I manually set the resolution

2) If I recall I had to set the setting "Color Depth Setting" to off.

I guess these settings all depend on your TV and you may have to play with them.   Mine is an old Samsung non-smart TV.

I have done the upgrade to 7.1 as instructed. the only issue I am finding is that I can not turn on Remote Control - so I can use my phone to control the box through the network. Is there a way to turn this on. It worked before the upgrade.

The remote that came with the 1900 PRO should have been a USB remote

Have you tried plugging in the USB dongle for the remote into another USB port on the box?

The remote that came with the unit with the usb adaptor is working but that remote does not work well for netflix so I also use a remote app on my phone to control the box through my wireless network, in the old OS there was an option to turn on the "Remote Control" option to allow another android device to control the android box. I am not able to find this option/setting in the new Android 7.1.2 update.

Try the Cetus Play Remote app on the Playstore + Apple App Store on your phone

This one should work well, without needing the remote option on the firmware.

Tried to get this upgrade to work and figured it had bricked my device. In disgust I left it over night then today as a last resort I tried the device on another television. Damned if the thing isn't working just fine, it just hates the TV it used to be connected to now.

The whole thing has just left me shaking my head. Thankfully, I can swap the 1900 I have upstairs with it. Only problem there is Netflix won't run on that now (won't connect as of a few weeks ago I think, don't really use that the box for Netflix much).

Update on my problem. The ATV495PRO no longer functions  in 4k mode on my TV. I set it to 1080p on an older TV and tried it on the tv and it works.

Not too much of a hardship given I don't really have much in the way of 4k media.

One other thing that I noticed with Amazon Prime and Netflix. It seems that Google Play will now deliver mobile phone versions of the app.

The Aptoide version of Netflix was not compatible with the box when I tried that.

So I ended up with the 19th June version for Android boxes that I downloaded from apkmirror.com (thats for Netflix at least).

Haven't looked for how to fix that yet. Maybe from now on I'm gonna being using apkmirror instead of Google Play as a solution.

Other things, the FIle Manager is a huge step back in functionality and Eshare is missing.

The issue with Aptoide is it installs the X86 version of Netflix when ya click Install.  It is installing 4.16
As Aptoide never built in way to detect X86 vs ARM, Google Play has this built in

The 495 PRO uses ARM
If ya click on Other Versions when looking at Netflix on the Aptoide Store and install Version # 6.26 1

This is the correct working version

Google Play has always installed Mobile Versions of Netflix + Amazon Prime, actually all apps from the Google Play Store on the 495 PRO are Mobile or Tablet Versions
Aptoide though has some Google Play TV apps though, like Amazon Prime.
You just need to search for it.

I know this is a very old topic however I just dusted off my 495Pro now that I have solid internet.

I attempted the flash several times but I keep getting the error that there is an error in the zip file and it can't flash.  Consequently I no longer have a system file and I have to reboot to recovery and flash the 5.1 firmware again which works wonderfully.  Both downloaded onto the same USB from the same computer from the same source.  Any idea why?

You using USB...???  I just struggled with the same thing today.  Turns out it has to be an SD card.  Firt try after changing to SD card worked like a charm.

I got the Beta version working but don't like the new home screen. Some of the apps are sluggish and do not work so well on the 7.1. It run much better on the original 5.1.

Downloaded the original firmware from MiGica and my box say there is an error on the software.

Can anybody help.......Thanx

I have never experienced so much frustration. MYGICA 495pro does not read upgrade image files as explained by them. Showmax does not work. Upgrading as they said is impossible on my device. NEVER EVER AGAIN A MYGICA PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!
