Bricked after firmware upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi, I did a firmware upgrade and my box has been bricked for a long time. I gave up trying to fix it after many attempts. The cost of shipping the box back to China exceeds the cost of the box. I have contacted tech support in China and they gave me some files to format a SD card with some files. I put the sd card into the mygica box and nothing happens even after 5 minutes. I tried to hold the reset button while I put in the power supply and still nothing happens. This has become a very frustrating experience and I don't know what to do. I have had this ATV1200 since last year but I only used it for around 2 weeks and it became bricked. I gave up but I recently found this forum. Please help me! Thanks :(

May I know which country you live in, and where you purchased your unit from?

I live in Canada but I bought it directly from the MyGicaBrand store from aliexpress. I begged for help from the manufacture and the Mygica seller but they totally just ignore me. I have screen shots to prove it.

Send an email to both sales@mygica.com and support@mygica.com and CC me in on it as well support@mygica.ca

I will take care of this for you.

Thanks

I had a normally working firmware in my box - Android 4.1 Geniatech Firmware 20130805. Then i wanted to test other firmwares and downgrade my box to this version (http://www.geniatech.com/news/mx-atv120 ... uction.asp). I installed this SPI (http://www.geniatech.com/down-eng/andro ... 917SPI.zip), box rebooted and thats it... i only had a red light and no chance to get into recovery.

I tried rescue my box with those firmwares:

http://www.mygica.es/downloads/Manual_D ... 130805.rar

http://www.mygica.ca/forum/download/file.php?id=71

Nothing worked (i think its because my box SPI was broken and there was no way how to get into recovery)

I downloaded this file (http://www.sendspace.com/file/kr3wta) and created a boot card (steps 1-4 feom instruction). In Windows 8.1 i opened SDcardMaker.exe as administrator otherwise i cant see my sd card

Downloaded the files from below link and done everything from readme (http://www.sendspace.com/file/qdkl2y). Tried to boot my box with this card in and holding the recovery button - no results. Then tried to boot with recovery button and pin bridging (http://i.imgur.com/3WEhxnZ.jpg?1) - boot started but after upgrade the same red light.

To sucessfully recover my box i changed this:

Downloaded this spi from Finless Bob (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9BFwCz ... NhUkE/edit) and copied it to my rescue sd card.

In rescue SD card opened file factory_update_param.aml (with notepad) and changed this command (--update_package=/sdcard/update_stvmx_20130805_eng.zip) to this command (--update_package=/sdcard/atv1200_spi_assertion_removed.zip)

With SD card in the box bridged those 2 pins (http://i.imgur.com/3WEhxnZ.jpg?1), holded the upgrade button and plugged in power adapter. Waited till SPI update ended and after that my box rebooted automatically - sucessfully rebooted into Android that i previously installed on my box (Geniatech Firmware 20130805).

I dont know if this method will work with other ATV1200 boxes which are bricked other way. If somebody want to try this method - try at your own risk Im only sharing my unbrick experience :)

Another instruction (similar as my instruction):

Here that what i do:

i created a boot card follow http://www.sendspace.com/file/kr3wta.

Firmware: http://update.mygica.cn/MX_4.1/Mygica_M ... 140708.zip

and: https://www.sendspace.com/file/qdkl2y

i used this (http://www.thepaintstore.com/v/vspfiles ... 4RG-2T.jpg) for bridged 2 pins. Hold reset button, and plug in. When Red led and green led are flashing, i release all (except power line) . It back to work like a charm.

Ok thanks for sharing this.

I will look this over and try this myself. Will certainly help in reviving bricked units rather then just exchanging them.

hello everyone it seem that all MyGica seem to get bricked adding the new software.I wonder whats going on! I have 2 mygica 400 that are bicked and only bought them a moth ago from dealer in Vancouver bc Canada. I have 3 MyGica -400-1200 1800 the only one that did not not brick was 1800. I also own 2 mx2 gboxes and did the new firmware update on them with no troubles at all.I wonder whats going on with the mygica they say here in Vancouver bc at the dealers that mygica is number 1 selling android box ? I would prefer the Mx2 gbox , never have any problem with it. I also wish there was better solution or easy solution on how to unbrick the mygica"s. so we don't have to send back to mygica for warrenty and wait so long for delivery.I hope somebody has ideas what Justin can do about this matter.

All of our Dual Core models have been sold with the Android 4.2 Upgrade since May 2014. So I am not sure why you are attempting this upgrade, since you already had it installed when you bought it.

Trying to re install it might be the reason why you bricked the box.

Currently we do not have any easy ways to unbrick units, as you can see from other users posts around the forum of the difficult steps involved in unbricking units. So therefore for now we must just exchange them under warranty.

We have manually updated 1000s of Dual Cores from 4.1 to 4.2 with the exact same firmware that is available for download here on our forum, and have not bricked a single unit.

I believe the 520e are still being sold with 4.1 firmware on them.

Picked some up last week and had to upgrade them.

This is true. For the ones being sold at Canada Computers.

Majority of our USA online sellers have been upgrading them to 4.2 before shipping them to customers.

I have an ATV400 and it doesn't seem to want to boot into the do the upgrade.

I hold the power button for more than 10 sec while connecting power and it just boots into the normal MyGica.

If I remove the SD and do this then I get into a manual recovery menu, where it's asking for an img file. If I then insert the SD back in then I can browse the files in the root no problem.

I tried erasing the SD card using the MyGica and then extracting the files back into the root from Windows (The MyGica formats it as FAT32).

It just doesn't seem to boot into the upgrade with the SD pre-inserted.

Any suggestions?

If I manually select an img file then am I just going to brick it?

I'm in New Zealand and don't want to risk bricking it. Brought it from a major retailer (Noel Leeming).

From "About MediaBox" dialogue...

Model: MX Enjoy TV BOX

Android Version: 4.1.2

Uboot version: 365aa7b-dirty(20130510.122221)

Recovery Version: 594508a-dirty(20130610.154.543)

Kernel version: 3.08-g594508a-dirty

Build number: V1.03.04MX01_20130628

Any suggestion?

Thanks

I would try downloading the files again. And make sure they are all on the Root of the SD card, with no other files besides the ones for the 4.2 upgrade.

OK. Tried that. On the 2nd attempt (inserting power will holding power button for more than 10 sec) I saw the Animated Android appear with the progress bar. After that it went to a black screen. Nothing else was displayed after that. Left it for 2 hours and nothing.

Now it just displays blank screen when powered on. Holding power button doesn't seem to get it into recovery mode.

How do I hard reset it or it is it toast?

I called the retailer I purchased it from and they aren't interested because it was August 2013 that I purchased it.

Is there any option to fix this or unit swap???

Thanks

The power button is the reset button.

Sounds like you bricked the unit.

We are getting equipment for our offices soon to unbrick units. We should be setup for this by the end of the month.

If your unit is out of warranty. Contact rma@mygica.ca to see if we can do anything for you.
