ATV380 choppy no matter what

I've had an ATV380 for a few years now, and it's never been satisfactory. No matter what, the interface has been laggy and video playback has never been smooth locally, streaming, or Netflix. Tried:

• wireless
• 100mbit wired
• 50mbit & 10mbit internet
• DLNA, USB, SD, local internal memory
• various video codecs and files (avi, mp4, mkv, etc)
• various media software (included players like 4K, Kodi and VLC downloaded from MyGica Market)
• 1080p screen & videos
• 720p screen & videos
• 480p screen & videos
• all available firmwares, including the available Lollipop 5.1
• factory resets/cache clears

Kit Kat has slightly laggy interface and slightly stuttering video. Lollipop has very laggy interface,  slightly stuttering video and audio skips. Since the same issue is across all software, I can only assume it's a codec or hardware issue.

Anyone have any solutions?
