Buffering issues

Whenever I try to play media from my hard drive in XBMC (Frodo, Gotham or Helix), I have huge buffering issues irrespective whether it is a movie (mpeg or avi) or mp3. I can understand buffering of media hosted in Romania or elsewhere but why from my hard drive connected via usb with the ATV? I'm using ATV 1200. Any suggestions?

Are you clearing the cache regularly?

Yes, i am and i also have a xml file setup to clear the cache (Zero cache). Movies run well directly from android but a big issue with xbmc (with Helix it is slightly better and I prefer Frodo).
