upgrade instructions are very sketchy!

Recommended Posts

I purchased an ATV 1800 last year and by and large very happy with it, though the wireless speed seems kinda slow. This is apparently addressed in the March upgrade.

HOWEVER, in big letters across the top it says

**CAN ONLY BE USED ON THE 11-05-14 FIRMWARE OR NEWER**

How do I verify what version I have now? I'm looking at 'About device' and lots of things have dates embedded in them:

kernel version

jp@ubt124d375761-8b71fa(10141018.152553).

October 18 2014 I suppose?

uboot version

a85a50c(20140922.092536)

Sept 22?

Build number

V002M801_20141021

Oct 21?

Since all three of these are > 11-05-14 I might be OK except is that 11th of May or 5th of November?

Please can you be a bit more organised with these dates, they work differently all over the world. It _seems_ you are using UK/AU style dates but who knows these days? Better instructions on how to check your current version, and what to do if you have to make a two-step upgrade, are definitely required.

Also is it possible to download the update directly to the device using e.g. Chrome, you provide no instructions for doing it this way which is a lot better than messing around with SD cards, or so I would have thought.

Finally, even the possibility of 'bricking' the thing by a wrong upgrade is pretty poor. Surely some basic version checking first wouldn't be too hard to put into the update? You guys amateurs or what?

OK no reply so far.

Let me put this another way: given these software revisions, what is my upgrade path and how do I apply them? The device has never once been able to contact the update server for auto update despite having a working network connection.

kernel version

jp@ubt124d375761-8b71fa(10141018.152553).

uboot version

a85a50c(20140922.092536)

Build number

V002M801_20141021

Thanks!

I think that a mod will need to answer your question as the 20141021 (Oct) firmware you have is close in date to the 11 05 14 (Nov) and they may be the same.

Thanks FBN, I'm hoping a mod will answer at some point :-)

I am very reluctant to just have a swing at this since it seems you can break your box if you choose poorly...
