ATV380 - Wifi vs Ethernet Speed

I had my ATV380 connected through Wifi but was getting slower than normal speeds so I ran a cat6 cable to the box from my router.

Doing a speed test I get slower speeds (Max 19MBPS) with ethernet but 24.5MBPS with WIFI. I connect my laptop to the same cat6 cable and get 25MBPS. I downloaded the speedtest.net app and get the same results. Is there something that prevents the ATV380 from getting full speed using ethernet?

24.5 MBPS is a fast internet connection, so not sure how this is slow? If you think its slow due to buffering, that is usually the server you are watching that is the issue, even a 100MBPS connection wouldn't be any better.

I will have to see why our Ethernet chips are getting slower speed over Wifi, We use Realtek Wifi chips, will have to check which Ethernet adapter we use inside to see what the differences are.

I started another thread for ATV582 on the same issue. I am also seeing the same behavior on my atv582 box.

Same problem for me. Wifi shows 25mbps and Ethernet at 5mbps.

Seems very strange to me.

Which app are you all using when doing a Speed Test?

HMMM...I have a 582 and 1200 and im using Wi-Fi on both of them and both works great for me using Wi-Fi.

I have yet to see lost connection. All I watch pretty much is HD content on XBMC.

Download a different app for the speed test. The stock one on the box is not correct.

Try Speedtest.net by Ookla you will see it works better.

Yes it seems the pre instaled version of speedtest is grabbing the server from overseas, which translates into a low speed test.

OOKLA will grab one that is close to you.

I still get low Ethernet speeds with the OOKLA speedtest, but normal WIFI speeds.

Yes were aware of the Ethernet issue.
