ATV 582 updates and addons

If I just received my ATV582 for Christmas do I need to install updates manually or will it do this automatically?

Also what are some great apps/add ons for the unit to make the experience better?

I want to watch live tv but I can't find anything that works in Canada.

Best suggestions I can give you are these 2

1. Search in YouTube " How to setup XBMC for Android"

2. Search in YouTube "How to setup Live TV on XBMC"

Both of those search terms will give you lots of how to videos, and help you with exactly what you are looking for.
