I have heard of this Audio crackling issue

It is not a hardware issue, seems to be a software issue with the Firmware that came pre installed on a recent batch we brought in.

Has to do with a version of Firmware from Oct 2015.

You can try an OTA Update, by using the Upgrade app that is pre installed

It should fix this, as I have tested this at our office.

The OTA Update server is back online, and has the Dec 2015 firmware available

Let me know your guys results

I haven't been able to get an OTA update since purchasing the 1800e.

Extremely disappointing.

Manual updates are not for the squeamish either - right now the MyGica models are not consumer friendly.

Like, at all.

All that said, I have 2 major audio issues.

First, the static mentioned by the OP.

Snap crackle pop, especially if audio becomes saturated.

It's unbearable.

Second, this firmware has a problem with AC3 audio.

The reason for this I believe is that a proper Dolby license is not present.

Just a bare, license-less implementation of AC3 processing, which is junk.

Since 1/3 of my library is AC3, so it's a major problem.

All that said... I cannot find this so-called Dec15 update anywhere.

Any help locating it would be appreciated.

Agree, manual load was not that smooth. Took a while, then thinking for a while, then stopped. Unplugged and restarted machine with the hoes that the update took, which it did.

All that being said, thankful for the responsivenes of moderator, product has been impressive thus far. I was an early adopter of the boxee box, still have three of them, time to upgrade though...

Ah, ok. I saw that update.

I was confused then.

A post above says Dec15 so I was looking for an update from December 15th, as opposed to December 2015.

My bad.

Thanks for that.

I may give it a go, but as mentioned the process isn't nice-n-easy, so I may skip it and just grin and bear it.

The OTA update failures OTOH are inexcusable. Very.... rinky-dink.

I paid $225 for this 1800e device. I'm starting to regret it and wish I had done a little more homework.

I applied that patch this morning.

I had the same experience as you.

Took a while, then the unit locked up and stopped responding.

Unplugged and restarted, the update was applied, build is now dec15.

That was a bit unnerving, I was praying the unit wasn't bricked.

I can also confirm that the snap crackle pop static noise is now gone.

Additionally, it appears as though the AC3 audio problem has also been remedied by this patch. I played a few files that I know to have caused problems before, and they are now problem-free. So it appears that may have been related to the static issue, which is resolved, making my initial comment about a missing Dolby license totally wrong - my apologies for that.

A positive experience with the update, though I would have preferred it just rebooted and not locked up. :)

Good to hear you guys got this working

We are having some issues with our OTA update server recently

I am making the change to using a Amazon Web Server for OTA, since our current server I find is just to slow to manage all OTA updates for the World. In the meantime will try to figure out issues with our current server, while setting up our new Amazon Web Server so we can make the switch.

I have found if the volume isn't turned all the way up on the box when it's set to passthrough you get static. Don't know if that helps.
