Accessing my hard drive via my smartphone

I recently purchased my ATV1800E hooping the can access my kodi media using UPnP on my smartphone. unfortunately I've only been able to add the shared media but i can't play them.

I red somewhere the the drive containing the media should be writeable or something , i didn't understand that or even if it's the solution to this problem I don't know how to do that.

If anyone can help me with this problem I'll appreciate it.
