update_MyGica_S802_4.4_20151119.img first impressions

Recommended Posts

updated atv 582 first gen via USB with factory reset (udisk in recovery menu - sd card is not recognized in recovery)

my box is only wifi 54g 2.4 Ghz (no N)

no bluetooth

first impressions (tested a couple of hours only):

- noticed improvement in UI responsiveness

- didn´t saw a buffering issue in netflix (still its SD and not HD)

- didn´t saw a buffering issue in kodi *

- refresh rate switching working ok * (in kodi)

- google play store working ok

- remote control buttons ok (netflix - kodi)

still to test

- wake from stand by (after a day is when the box doesn´t respond)

- iptv wifi performance

- 1080p mp4 wifi streaming performance in kodi (big files)

- ethernet performance (box is too far away from modem for me to test it)

*edit:

file tested in kodi was:

[Format]: MKV

[Resolution]: 720p (1280x720) [X264]

[Display aspect ratio]: 16:9

[Frame rate]: 23.976 fps

1.9 GB

2nd edit:

Also updated. All went OK with USB stick, didn't try SD card. Did factory reset, all installed ok, also new KODI. Play store working ok, didn't try wifi.

Does this update require a factory reset?

I understand you need that to grab the new Kodi from the firmware (I've already done that manually) but to effectively update the firmware is a factory reset absolutely required?

Here's my experience with the update

- Copied the image on a USB Stick

- Chose manual update

- Box rebooted and progress bar hanged at 90% (spinning shape in Android Logo stopped too)

- Waited there for a while... Too long for my patience... Reboot

- Bad bootloader error, many options offered (factory reset, load img from int, ext, etc...) Couldn't mount the USB stick anymore. So shut it down again and copied the new image on the SDCARD - Reboot.

- Was able to update from the SDCARD, didn't start fresh with a factory reset.

Scary experience but so far so good. I haven't experiment much yet but things looks fine for now.

Thanks for the update.

This runs slower on 582/380 due to 1GB Ram, it has not been fully optimized for 1GB Ram use yet.

I tried to upgrade and got stuck on frist reboot, it won't finish it... In the end, I unplugged the unit and copied the img again to my sd card and reboot it. This time it upgraded normally and I have now the unit working fine.
