So if they do put the decoding back into Kodi, will we have to switch from hardware decoding to software decoding when we play Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA?

Also, if we use MX player instead of the built in XBMC video client can we watch DolbyHD and DTS-MA by switching from HW to SW?

You figured something out but not the question at hand. I don't want to soft decode hd audio. Thats what expensive receivers are for.

Our Quad core units can only hardware decode Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus, as we only use the S802B AMLogic chipset.

Hopefully this answers all of your questions in regards to Audio.

This is possible if you are using XBMC. Since they have the options to Software Decode most HD Audio codecs over HDMI.

Just need to change a setting with the Audio settings within XBMC

I Can't get my Yamaha RX-v1500 to show that it is seeing more than 2 channels from my 1800 and Kodi 15.2

Optical connected, passthrough enabled, Kodi settings for DTS capable receiver.

Any suggestions on what else I might try?

Have you tried switching the settings inside kodi to EXPERT Settings

This will give you more settings options
